My name is Susie and I am the creator of Guardian Angel Bears.

I have recently moved to St.Columb in North Cornwall from Leicestershire where I had a cake design and sugarcraft business. I loved being a cake artist but after undergoing surgery on both hands I found that I no longer had the sensitivity in my fingertips required for this fine artform. As I have been involved in design all of my life-from textiles to gardens, I could not imagine doing anything that wasn’t creative.

My inspiration came from my life-long belief in angels and my love of bears. I am convinced that with guidance from my angels, they helped me design and create Guardian Angel bears.

My bears are made from the finest quality mohair or alpaca, they all have glass eyes, embroidered noses and I use tapestry or ultrasuede for their foot and pawpads. They are filled with heavy polyester and weighted in their feet with bagged steel shot and I use nut and bolt joints.

I start talking to them from the first “snip” that I make in the fabric so that by the time I am ready to create their faces I know who they are.

I take a great deal of time over hand-making the wings as they are a very important part of my bears and they are believed to represent “freedom”. I am guided by each bear as to what they will look like. They take a very long time to make as I only use top quality sterilized feathers and have to attach each one individually. I also hand-make their accessories such as crowns and garlands.

My Guardian Angel Bears are designed to stand so they can show off the beauty of their wings, I have also created some cherubim and seraphim, these have smaller wings and they sit.

I am currently working on a design for archangels and hope to create my first one soon.

I am looking forward to showing my bears for the very first time at the Cornwall Bear Fair in Lostwithiel on 24^th June 2007.

My bears are for adult collectors and are not suitable for children unless given as a keepsake NOT to be played with. They are all individual (one of a kind) and named, the meaning of which is given on their swing ticket which is signed by me.
